"Agbekor" is a 400 year old warrior dance of the Ewe people of Ghana, performed to drums: "Axatse" (gourd shaker), "Gakogui" (double iron bell/timekeeper), "Kagan," (narrow drum/keeps a constant "off-beat"), "kidi" and "Sogo," (response drums), and the "Atimevu" (Master drum), which leads the ensemble. A horse's tail is held in one hand, as dancers gyrate hips and ribs in bird-like, contraction/release movements, front/back, and down to the earth, responding to "atsias" that signal changes.
Hi Lisa, Your dance was a grear representation of a "warrior" and since we met and talked a bit yesterday, I was reminded of the rigorous load we are both undertaking in 613. As we are "jumping" into a brand new learning experiences,we are persevereing onward like every "warrior" should. Also, in regards to the Ghananaian rhythms and your interpretation of the "Agbekor" dance,it was energizing to watch. I also observed some "Zorba the Greek" kicking going on.
